Rhode Island uses a nationally approved Workload Prioritization Tool (WPT) to help organize and manage the order in which program applications are processed. The WPT provides a standardized, transparent method for identifying which applications should be worked on first, allowing staff to focus effort where it is most needed.

The WPT evaluates each Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and Agricultural Management Assistance (AMA) application through a short series of questions. Based on the applicant’s circumstances and program‑specific criteria, the tool assigns the application a priority category:

• High Priority: 68 points or more
• Medium Priority: 34–67 points
• Low Priority: 33 points or fewer

These categories guide the sequence in which Rhode Island processes applications.
Staff work on High‑priority applications first, followed by Medium‑priority applications, and finally Low‑priority applications. This workflow approach helps ensure timely assistance for applicants with the greatest need, while still allowing all applications to move through the system in a clear and orderly manner.

To ensure an application can be fully evaluated within this prioritization process, applicants must complete several key steps by November 13, 2026. Applicants should:

1. Respond to NRCS with any requested information needed to complete ranking; and
2. Complete all required eligibility paperwork and submit it to the Farm Service Agency; and
3. Provide NRCS access to the property so staff can complete necessary assessments, interviews, evaluations, and planning activities.

Timely completion of these actions allows NRCS to accurately determine an application's priority level within the WPT.
