What is the Migratory Bird Resurgence Initiative (MBRI)?

The Migratory Bird Resurgence Initiative (MBRI), aims to preserve, protect and improve habitat for migratory waterfowl, shorebirds, neotropical birds, and other avian species in the Prairie Pothole Region and key portions of the Pacific, Mississippi, and Central Flyways.

Habitat Management Through NRCS

NRCS Texas has received funding to provide technical and financial assistance toward the protection and improvement of habitats for migratory species.

MBRI utilizes the practice, 646 - Shallow Water Development and Management. This practice may be scheduled up to three times per land unit, once per year.

Funding

NRCS Texas will be utilizing our authority to apply ACT NOW to quickly evaluate and fund applications for this initiative as part of EQIP. Eligible applications received prior to July 31, 2023, will be evaluated and scored. If they receive a threshold score of 20 or higher, a potential contract will immediately be offered. NRCS will utilize up to 100% of the funding allocated to this initiative for the development of contracts. NRCS does accept applications continuously for all of our programs.
